Internet Girlfriend is a love song... for the modern, technological era.
This song was written during the Covid lockdown while living at "The Church House," a community house in Santa Cruz, where I lived along with 8 fellow hoodlums. My housemate Kevin (frontman of local Santa Cruz group Perch) got involved with an online community of gamers and could frequently be heard throughout the house making exclamations and talking with his physically distant (but presumably real) friends. For some reason I had the idea that Kevin was some kind of internet mack-daddy and I got inspired to write a song about it.
I originally wrote the song with Perch in mind to perform it (and I'd still like them to) but once I finished the song, it came out so fun that I had to perform it myself. The song is light-hearted in tone but also touches on very real concepts. I won't tell you which but some of the lines are based on my own personal experiences ;)
